Growing up in the Pacific North West and spending the last couple of years in Colorado, nature walks are not uncommon. Now living in NYC, It's just not the same. So now, I have come up with typography nature walks. This is where I walk around this city with my iPhone in hand, capturing type in it's native state... in the streets. This was from my Sunday, February 20th walk around the East Village / Lower East side.

I had seen the commercials for a while now... It was something that could be well done, but I wasn't jumping out of my seat to check it out. I did stumble across the site one day and was pleasantly surprised. From what I could find, the Martin Agency is responsible for this. I love how it's idiot proof. Nothing to click or find, it just starts for you. Good looking design for the target. The only thing that really grinds my gears is waiting for more episodes that are "coming soon". With that, you kind of lost me. I am a 1 hit wonder and if you have me coming back... it's not going to happen. still, check it out for yourself... pretty funny to see Shaun White clueless.

I am guilty of this... even after going to "art school" I still don't know my history as much as I should. So this is my history lesson to myself. Stefan Kanchev (1915-2001) was one amazing logo designer. Since most of his work was done behind the iron curtain, His name might not be as familiar to you. His work is truly amazing and inspiring. Over at logoblink they put together a 160 pg PDF of his work. What is really impressive are his sketches... they are so well crafted it makes me feel ashamed of mine. 4 Icon challange

Old news in the dribbble world, but if you haven't seen this idea yet go to his site now! Kyle Tezak has challenged himself to try and capture the essence of an object or idea with only a few lines while maintaing its elegance. Great idea and a great test in keeping it simple. I showed this to Mr. Tomes and we are going to battle each other with this idea. We are going to make 4 icons that represent the other. I will keep you up to date as this battle progresses. Thanks for the great idea Kyle and can't wait to see these progress.

Rebranding the NBA

Michael Weinstein is rebranding the NBA, one team at a time. According to Mike, when he is not designing he is hooping it up. So why not combine his two passions into one? Since it's hard to design while playing basketball, Mike too the safe route and has started to rebrand the teams instead. smart. It's also inspiring, since seeing this I have started thinking up one for myself. Great stuff Mike!

Just wanted to close this project out by saying thanks. Thank you to all who designed, tweeted, blogged, or just spread the good word about this project. Sorry for all the missed links, wrong names and (er) wrong genders I might of labeled you along the way. Besides learning that I still can't spell Resolution (thanks dyslexia), I learned how lucky I am to find myself as a designer. Tip of the hat goes out to the people I thought were beyond this little blog, yet exceeded my expectations. I'm humbled to be apart of such an amazing community. And of course a huge thanks to Amy Kirby, the most amazing spell check & support staff I could have.

If you live in a city, you could be very guilty of this like myself. Hailing a cab often is they easiest way to quickly get around the urban landscape. Mig want to challenge himself to save money and actually explore the city without cabbing it. Then he won't miss the small mom & pop shop jems that can only be found on foot. Greg has a great take on a resolution... keep on doing what is working for you. Greg had a pretty good 2010, so why would he want to go and mess with a good thing. Greg found himself compulsively rolling up the sleeves on his many button-down shirts as of late. Greg likes the way it implies getting after it and working hard. So for this new year, his resolution is for the sleeves to stay rolled up. He thinks it will be an easy one. Looks like it will be easy after he hammered down and got this so quickly to me. This year my resolution is to live life (whatever it may bring), even if it means winging it sometimes. Yeah, sure things may not always go the way I want or thought, but I'm going to roll with it. I came to illustrate this new found resolution with a collage of things found, scanned and inspired to see what I could come up with. No rules, no expectations, just chance and an open mind.

I have been annoying, threatening, and pleading for Dustin to add his talents with this project. I am pretty sure he had this done awhile back, and just enjoyed the attention. Richard aka Skinny ships Has been battling here... Work, holidays and sickness on top of it. Like a true trooper he was able to eek out some time for this project. Something we are really grateful for. This is probably one of the more thoughtful ones so far. Richard says "Stay in the light, stay true, keep on the path (not in some holy holy way though)." I am not going to say that Morgan's is one of my favorite, but he didn't hurt his chances going for a nautical theme. Tip of the captain's hat to you good sir. Along with a 2-part resolution, Morgan comes in strong with some amazing design. Plus somedays, all you try to do is stay afloat. It's going to be nice to have these reminders on days like that. I got really excited at first glance, then I read the small type. Keeping It Simple Stupid was probably the better direction to go with this resolution. I thought for sure she was going with more weddings, but I don't think she needs a resolution for that. She also has an added a bonus design. Amy rips through gum faster than anyone I know. She has figured out though, less gum is more (cash). Thank you for not only your wallpaper, but everything else you have done for this project!

TO RESOLVE PROJECT is something that came about when I started talking new years resolutions with my girlfriend. You create a list, stuff it away in a drawer and it never sees the light of day till the year has passed. I decide to ask as many talented designers I know (or don't know) to create a resolution for the new year as an iPhone wallpaper. It's the one thing I do look at every day. This way you not only get a daily reminder, but you get a very stylish daily reminder at that. From now up until the new year I will be posting them as they come in, so check back often. Cant find one to fit your needs, then just download the template HERE and add to the project. No restrictions, so lets have some fun with it.

Deadline: would love to have these by the new year but will probably close this about a week after.
